On April 25, 2010, held a special environmental day in which members of the Association Gualmatán Green Country, the foundation Mayunka Ipiales and people in the community and both Ipiales of Gualmatán who are enthusiastic about ecological cause, we toured a natural area called the White Straw Páramo, specifically the area corresponding to the municipality of Gualmatán known as Valley of the Frailejones. The aim of the conference was to experiment with the senses presence of nature in its fullest expression in an ecosystem rich in water and where you can see different species of flora typical of the paramo environment.
The White Straw Páramo situation is very particular, is what I call "THE STRAW PARAMO ISLA BLANCA" This is because the ecosystem is isolated from the system to stop the Andes and that with only 3,636 hectares, holds 10 municipalities with their water. This star is off 44 water intakes for water supply and irrigation system, which makes this area a strategic area for the people of the region, but the advance of agricultural frontier remains a concern.
But as they could see the 28 people who went to the moor by the side of Gualmatán, emphasizes that not the case in other municipalities and instead the forest and wilderness area has recovered in recent years; this thanks to the opening of the road Ipiales Gualmatán, gas as an energy option, but especially to the great environmental awareness of its inhabitants a result of the awareness undertaken by Green Community radio station Stereo Gualmatán that it takes 13 years in this work Ecological communication.
Today we can enjoy a beautiful natural area that we expect can benefit the many people who visit us, if this plateau rise in peace and probe all set to make the most of your natural beauty repair of spirits. colleagues who are outstanding in this material a very special greeting and thanking them for their visit have been waiting very well and apologize for any mishap. A major purpose is to build for constructive criticism in order to continue to improve for future visits, as we hope to continue this activity taking children, young people from different sectors and communities organized.
