On February 23, 2011, the Committee on Petitions of the European Union has begun processing the request from the residents of the village of Edeta against urbanistic abuses.

The notification
attached a report on the impact of extensive urbanization in Spain and individual rights models European citizens, the environment and the application of Community law, based on specific requests received (among which are also one of Puig i Lis and Coto Catalá).

The report is extensive, but among many other interesting points in the section PROPOSAL FOR A EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT RESOLUTION highlight the following:

- whereas the obligation to cede legitimately acquired private property without engaging the receive due process or adequate compensation and the obligation to pay arbitrary costs for infrastructure development unsolicited and often unnecessary, constitute a violation of fundamental human rights under the ECHR the light of the European Court of Human Rights.

- whereas there have been many cases in which all government , central, regional and local authorities have been responsible for having launched a unsustainable development model, which has had dire consequences, of course environmental and also social and economic.

- Recital such widespread activity supporting local and regional authorities irresponsible through inadequate legislation and sometimes unjustified , which in many cases is contrary to the objectives of several European legislation.

- whereas many of these developments are far from consolidated urban areas and require substantial expenditure on basic services like electricity, water and road infrastructure; that these investments tend to benefit from EU funding.

- whereas such considerations abuses to which they are subjected thousands of EU citizens, who, as a result of plans made by developers, not only lost their property legitimately acquired, but have been forced to pay arbitrary costs for infrastructure projects often unwanted, unnecessary directly affecting their property rights and have resulted in emotional and financial catastrophe for many families.


In the section on EXPLANATORY detacamos the following:

- The European Commission has opened an infringement case against Spain, directly related to urbanization in Valencia .

- The Petitions Committee has hundreds of case studies [...] Most of the requests have been submitted by individuals on behalf of residents of a particular community some [...] come from vulnerable older people who fear their life savings, which have invested in your home to laugh, will be left to local officials irresponsible and unscrupulous.

- Ante cough, ask (the Committee on Petitions) a more certainty and greater respect for rightful owners and their rights .

- When you incur expenses must be justifiable and reasonable .

- The Commission asked the English authorities to review and revise legislation to ensure the rights enshrined in the Treaty in relation to the owners.
