SENDO SPRING EQUINOX: parties Cybele and Attis and its relationship to the Black Cave de Murcia (II)

Earlier this month, we referred to the party Murcia nominally connected with the Roman feast of the Kalends of April, with the worship of deities aquifer and the goddess Cybele, the PARTIES KALENDE APRILIA (Black Cave-Fortuna, Murcia).

La Cueva Negra and the Baths of Fortuna is a complex of two Roman altoimperial time deposits located near the town of Fortuna (Murcia) where water sources and the cult of the nymphs and the god Asclepius or Aesculapius Medical play an essential role.

The Black Cave, located two kilometers from the baths scarce, is a Templum Nimpharum , a place of worship peaceful, warm, cool, dedicated to the nymphs formed by a natural grotto with two sources springs. The cave had been used for centuries as a refuge for shepherds, was discovered for archeology in the early 80's of XX century. Since that date archaeological work carried out there around the securitization picti , over one hundred literary type epigraphic inscriptions painted by those who visited this place in the rock walls of the cave, with numerous references to the nymphs and in which, on the other hand, can be traced fragments of verses from the book I Aeneid of Virgil.

These inscriptions also emphasizes the reference to an important date in the cult of Cybele as March 27 (. VI Kal. April.), The day concluded spring festivals of Attideia , which we spent our last article. It is possible that in the Black Cave is held even before the first century AD a party in honor of the Magna Mater Cybele, from Carthage to attract many visitors looking for relaxation in the spa of Fortune theonym of divinity usually consecrated to the sacred groves. These visitors were probably men from the urban elite of the colony of Carthage that rose to the hot springs of Fortuna and that the pair of cures, and rituals held literary contests dedicated to the nymphs aquifers.
