WORLD WATER DAY AND WHITE STRAW PARAMO

The General Assembly of the United Nations adopted on December 22, 1993 the declaration of a special date to celebrate "World Water Day" on 22 March each year.
On this day the various States should place particular activities such as promoting public awareness through media, rallies, meetings, cultural and environmental conferences, in which dialogue on environmental issues in each country, region and location from water as main theme.
build our cities and towns near water, we bathe in water, play in water, work with water, our economies are based largely on the strength of its power to generate electricity, we are transported through it, all the products we buy and sell are in one way or another into the water. Our daily lives are set in and around water, without it our existence is inconceivable.
Lack of water causes more deaths each year than war, every day 4,500 children die from illnesses caused by unsafe water, one billion people lack safe drinking water, 2,600 million lack basic sanitation, a third of the planet is transformed into desert due to lack of water.
Thanks to the forests that still remain in Latin America, we have a privileged position in water, with only 6% of world population 26% of available freshwater. The delicate problem however, is not quantity but quality, more and more rivers and streams that have a dangerous degree of pollution and toxic waste.
But despite the awareness that governments and the world's population have about the serious problem that is representing the pollution and water scarcity is very little that is done at all levels, from international agencies, government national, departmental and municipal governments.
