WATER DAY CELEBRATING THE BLACK MOUNTAIN NATURE RESERVE
By: Roger Edison Vallejo Rodriguez, president Ecological Association Campo Verde
Water Day has been very hectic for environmentalists to take this commitment seriously . On Sunday March 21 Mayunka foundation of the city of Ipiales, led by a young enthusiastic and pilots, as Alexander Ferixon Yamá, they invited members of the Ecological Association Green Mountain Green station to celebrate Gualmatán Stereo World Water Day on Black Mountain Nature Reserve in the municipality of Ipiales, located next to Ward Yarumal.
Carlos Oviedo and decided to go myself, and this ecological walk we find many surprises in the first place when we meet people Mayunka we had confidence and joy because they were large people, kind and with the same end ours.
We went by car to where it came straight road, almost to the heights of the plateau at 3,100 meters high, it caused us wonder, because we did not understand because the authorities can trace these routes at that point and in the midst of fragile ecosystems and strategic water.

But perhaps most admired and desolation caused us to see how it had spread so fiercely the agricultural frontier in that area according to Mr. Arnolodo Belalcazar until about 20 years ago was all mountains. It was impressive to see how in the middle of frailejones was planted potatoes, ollocos, geese, etc.
hurry to take pictures everywhere as we mentioned and know deep in my heart that the little remaining native vegetation in that area had days are numbered thanks to the politics, insensitivity and complete absence of environmental and administrative authorities from their desktops is impossible to reach to see or perceive these serious environmental problems. Also, there is the will because there are no votes and they know that such measures are not always popular environmental and of course not advisable for those who get and measures for surface and mediatintas want to have everyone happy no matter what the future is ahead.
The natural environment of our area and across the country has been the most beaten because political and bureaucratic shifts do not know or are interested in implementing processes, each of whom made their own way and what it can if it does, another comes and clears or does the opposite. It is not known Local Environmental Plans or PAL., they could say that no municipality has them and if you are only on paper. There are no serious processes for environmental protection or environmental authorities.

But back to our green journey deeper into the territory towards Black Hill, we look at a wide area of \u200b\u200bseveral acres of frailejones which had the mark of having been burned, and yet as life is tough, had sprung from the ashes again these beautiful and noble plants, meaning that hopefully makes Several years had taken the decision to leave that territory to recover after severe damage.
War Lord Miguel Rosero, one of the owners of Black Hill
When we arrived at the rendezvous point was we don Miguel Rosero War. Owner with his two nephews of "Black Mountain" that we could see the magnificent and impressive background, but mostly complete, not damage the landscape unlike any we had walked.
of desolation spend with my partner to the joy and optimism to see that there are still good people like Don Miguel, with a big heart and intelligence that make substantive decisions that directly and indirectly benefit to humanity and wildlife.
So we encourage you to do interviews for our environmental programs, especially "GREEN DREAM TIME IN ACTION and GREEN are issued every day from 11 am to 12 noon, Monday through Saturday in the Green Ecological Station Stereo 104.1 FM heard in southern Nariño-Colombia and northern Ecuador. Also on Monday March 22 was the day of the Water wanted to collect interesting testimonies.
After some recommendations from Alex, we entered the reserve and was the most wonderful experience, comparable to that felt when visiting our wilderness Paja Blanca. It is like entering a huge garden full of countless flora of all shapes and colors, we forgot the cold, hunger, concerns and open the most of our eyes, our nostrils and especially our mind and spirit.
solemn look like ancient beings native trees and especially the majestic frailejones 4 and 5 meters high where we take photos embracing with love and tenderness as when he embraces the woman who loves .
emphasize the enthusiasm of Mr. Miguel Angel Rosero, entrepreneur, nature lover, owner of a company that produces clean organic fertilizer and also participated in the day taking photos tirelessly to everything that was presented to his eyes, and printing joy to others with timely, safe and funny comments.

Something of note is the oral tradition, Mr. Antonio Cuasapud, a person octogenarian native of the area caught the attention of those present and told us "The Pot hail," "Cross of Steel" and the presence of the spectacled bear, which incidentally live exclusively in this ecosystem the high Andean plateau and mountains, and thus are a unique species in the world, but unfortunately is in grave danger of extinction.
The Mayunka foundation work and of course with the great Don Miguel will have enabled humanity to have a gift in the midst of our current environmental crisis which prevails thoughtlessness, selfishness, ambition and materialism choking the planet and leading to a fatal point of exhaustion of natural resources, especially water that is the basis of life.

Don Miguel Guerra lovingly embraces a beautiful and imposing frailejón
Hopefully this example will serve to other people and communities organized to undertake this "way of salvation", thinking that we are not alone, that this matter but also the future and we must be good stewards to allow sufficient natural resources for our children and grandchildren.
Magnificent landscape of the Reserve Cerro Black
Now we, the Ecological Association Green Country, we will bring members to know the Páramo Mayunka White Straw at least in our town also has good news in terms of water, because Mayor Jaime Ortega Enrique Bastidas just bought 114 acres of moor and mountain Andean high resources of the Department, and that added to the land already had over 150 hectares, according to the president is in queue to buy another 150 acres that seeks to acquire before leaving office.
moment of reflection finished the day

And in the evening we put on our boots and went to surround the property acquired by the Association three years for recovery of the watershed of "Quarry 1" which supplies the vital fluid to the urban population. The trees are grown but had gotten cattle, which ate and knocked down some trees. We then have to spend a long closely with large stones stacked to prevent cattle from the upper happen again. Besides several native trees planted in the company of several children who took the mate Carlos Oviedo to follow suit.
